The door's backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the lock. Our Deadbolts have an adjustable bolt for either 2-3/8 or 2-3/4. Our Grade 1 Lever Locks are only available with a latch for a 2-3/4 backset. Our Grade 2 Lever Locks are available with a 2-3/4 or a 2-3/8 latch. 2-3/4 is the most common, especially for commercial doors, but it is always a good idea to check your backset before ordering. Just measure from the edge of the door to the center of the lock. Some doors have a beveled edge, so it is also a good idea to measure both sides of the door and split the difference (if there is a difference). You also want to note that there may be a slight variance, but it should be within about 1/8" of the correct backset depth. In other words, if you get something between 2-5/8 and 2-7/8, the correct backset is 2-3/4. The first picture is 2-3/4, and the second is 2-3/8.
